How to Use Laundry Strips
1 / Peel off / remove a sheet from the packet.
2 / Tear the sheet in half – each half is one strip, containing enough detergent for one regular sized load of laundry.*
3 / Tear the strip into smaller pieces, and scatter those pieces throughout your laundry load, directly in the drum of your washer.
*For larger or more heavily soiled loads, increase the amount of detergent by simply adding a portion of or a full second strip. For smaller loads or hand washing, use half of a strip.
Why the change of PVA?
There has been some debate in recent months about PVA and while we remain confident that the PVA in our old sheets was safe, we wanted to ensure we were doing all that we could to be 100% certain. When we found a form of PVA that was proven to be fully biodegradable in wastewater, it was no brainer for us. If you know better, do better. It was also important to us to find a PVA that had a 3rd party certification from an organization who hold rigorous standards. Often, research done by a company can be skewed in the company’s favour, so a 3rd party verification was crucial to us to ensure that the research was evaluated without bias.
Where can I see the research?
While the research is unpublished, it was performed by the company that makes the PVA and was submitted to BPI who evaluated it based on testing method and results and then granted the certification. BPI is a science-driven organization that supports a shift to the circular economy by promoting the production, use, and appropriate end of lives for materials and products that are designed to fully biodegrade in specific biologically active environments. Essentially, this is the gold standard for compost and biodegradation certification and we couldn’t be happier about it!
How is your PVA different to other PVA on the market?
The production method of our PVA is proprietary, but essentially the manufacturing process including the ingredients used allow for our source of PVA to be THE ONLY certified biodegradable one on the market.
Does it contain microplastics?
No. The European Union Commission adopted Regulation (EU) No. 2023/2055 to restrict microplastics. In order to meet the EU standards the PVA must degrade in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 2023/2055 Appendix 15 ‘Rules on proving degradability’ and with a solubility of more than 2 g/L in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 2023/2055 Appendix 16. Our PVA met the requirements laid down in Appendix 16 ‘Rules on proving solubility’ and are exempted from the microplastic definition. Win win!
What is a laundry strip?
Our laundry strips are an ultra-concentrated, liquidless laundry detergent that comes the form of a pre-measured, tearable strip. It's the eco-friendly solution to the 700 million plastic laundry detergent jugs that end up in landfills every year.
Why doesn't the laundry strip product many suds?
You may be surprised to learn that the amount of suds produced does NOT relate to the detergent's cleaning power.
High Efficiency (HE) washing machines recommend the use of low-sudsing detergent formulas, specifically labelled as HE-compatible. Our Laundry Strips use a unique, low-sudsing formula that is HE-compatible, and works in all types of washing machines.
Other laundry detergents that produce lots of suds usually contain bubble-producing additives, which in reality do nothing to improve their cleaning power – these additives are added mainly for appearance purposes.
